Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel

OK, OK I know I’ve talked about this book before, but really it is so very, very, very GOOD!  I decided to book talk it to the French gr. 5/6 class.  Little hesitant at first because I thought it might be too young for them.  But as I was showing them the book, I decided to read it to them instead of The City of Ember.  I was expecting a revolt, as they LOVE their City of Ember.  And, exactly where is the movie, oh local movie theatre!!! I’ve seen Twilight, oooh, that reminds me, if you haven’t seen it you MUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTT!

Bad Kitty

So back to  my Bad Kitty story.  I started off by telling them this kiddie looking book wasn’t for kiddies!  It was for older kids because of the language and story line.  They bit (hahaha all pun intended!)  Had a quick discussion on the illustrations and how they had to pay attention to them as this was a picture book and they contributed greatly to the story.  Then we digressed into a minor discussion of “cheezeburger” on the Net.  As I read the story and shared the pictures, the more skeptical of the crowd began to laugh.  And LAUGH they did.  They loved it when Kitty got “violent with the vet”. A group of them sat on the couch and re-read the book enjoying the illustrations immensely! They even shared the book with their amazingly wonderful classroom teacher, who shared it with the secretary!  All around – a hell of great read! Try it!

Ended with a discussion on how they could come up with a sequel for a creative writing assignment!

Library rocks!
